SALEM HILL IS SIGNED TO PROGROCK RECORDS AND RELEASES "BE"
31 Jul 2011
SALEM HILL IS SIGNED TO PROGROCK RECORDS AND RELEASE “Be” Rancho Santa Margarita, CA – 26 March 2004 -- Salem Hill was formed in 1991 by Groves, bassist Pat Henry, and drummer Kevin Thomas. Michael Dearing, a childhood chum of Groves' joined a bit later. Their goal was simple: Make music of creative and artistic merit. Not an easy task in the blossoming Grunge era. Nevertheless, the band recorded and released their debut, "Salem Hill" in the spring of 1992. This album, along with its follow-up, "Different Worlds" in 1993 garnered promising reviews. 13 years and 7 albums later Salem Hill is now working with ProgRock Records. “When Shawn told me he was talking to Salem Hill I never thought he’d pull it off. I’ve loved these guys for years, when they signed with us it made my day, I can’t wait to work with them.” Said Jerry George, A&R Director for ProgRock Records. Shawn Gordon, President of ProgRock Records had this to say “Salem Hill has been a personal favorite of mine for years, I didn’t even realize they weren’t signed to a label till recently, so I immediately fired off an email to Carl and approached him about the idea of working with us. I knew they had some real reservations about working with any label, and I’m really thrilled that we were all on the same page and can now work together. One of the ironies is that Salem Hill is also playing at ROSFest (www.rosfest.com) and we have 3 other artists playing there as well, it’s going to be a great weekend of music.”. It is with great pleasure that Salem Hill announces it is signing with ProgRock Records! Fans of the band might be a puzzled, especially considering the rather public disdain Salem Hill has shown for record labels in the past. Founder Carl Groves explains, "Unlike our deal with Cyclops which was solely a distribution deal for European territories, this deal with ProgRock Records is a true partnership between artist and label and covers the world. Our criteria for agreeing to a deal had always been based on a demand that the label share our rather lofty vision of what Salem Hill can be. Up to this point, no label that has ever courted us has understood that vision. However, it became evident fairly quick that PRR's president, Shawn Gordon, not only understands our vision, but shares it as well. It also didn't hurt that every artist in the PRR stable I talked to had nothing but praise for the work being done to promote and distribute their music. Needless to say, the guys and I are juiced!" ProgRock will be carrying Salem Hill's latest release, "Be." Salem Hill's sixth studio album, "Be" is a conceptual work exploring issues like isolation, loneliness, judgment and abandonment. In general terms, it's another addition to the artistic world which has spent centuries asking, "who are we and why are we here?" In specific terms, "Be" may be asking, "why, in the modern era of unprecedented speed of communication and why, as a member of a global community instantaneously interconnected, do I still feel so alone?" “Be” is available immediately for order and shipping.
