K2 SIGNED TO PROGROCK RECORDS, SET TO RELEASE “Book of the Dead”
31 Jul 2011
Rancho Santa Margarita, CA – 8 March 2005 – K2’s (K-squared) long awaited debut release is finally available! “Book of the Dead” features 5 tracks of pure progressive rock at its finest. Book of the Dead is a conceptual work written by bassist/keyboardist Ken Jaquess from the band Atlantis and is comprised of 5 songs presented as chapters. With ideas and stories taken directly from the Egyptian Book of the Dead, Ken has weaved an intricate, ornate tale of Pharonic rule, death and their ultimate journey to the afterlife. “I’ve always loved ancient Egypt, and now I get to realize a life long dream of releasing this fantastic CD. And I have Shawn Gordon at ProgRock Records to thank for his patience and dedication to this project. He stuck with me all the way, and I’m very grateful for that.”, Ken said. Shawn Gordon, President of ProgRock Records had this to say, “Ken is such a great guy, one of the few artists on the label that lives in my area so we are able to physically get together periodically. From the moment we first met we became friends, then I got to listen to his music, and I really like it. Yea, it’s taken about a year longer than I was expecting to get the final product, but I’m really pleased with the results and glad I waited”. Book of the Dead showcases brilliant musicianship from guitar god Allan Holdsworth, Doug Sanborn on the drum kit, keyboards from Ryo Okumoto, of Spocks Beard fame, violin from classical virtuoso Yvette Devereaux, and Shaun Guerin on vocals. “It was such a pleasure working with these great musicians. To work with people you grew up listening too, was real cool. I never thought I would meet these icons, let alone actually play with them”, Ken says. “Unfortunately Shaun passed away shortly after he sang on my album. It hit me real hard. I was just getting to know him, so I hope this release will help fill the void left by his passing. He had such an amazing voice”. When asked why it took so long to finish, (4 years), Ken Jaquess says, “Whenever I start to record a new album, I always plan to record and mix quickly. This time it started out great, then eventually moved to a slow crawl. Time and money are the usual suspects, but when I have this much time to work on an album, I want to get it just right. So in the end, the extra year spent working on this project has made it even better then it was! Having been the bassist and founding member of “Atlantis”, Ken has had his share of time in the studio. “Atlantis was together for 8 years, and we only released 2 albums! We spent a lot of time working on those albums. So I guess I’m right on track with putting out a CD every 4 years”! This is the first of several K2 releases on the ProgRock Records label and a must have for any Prog Rock enthusiast. “Book of the Dead” will be available worldwide in stores in April 2005.
